Fandom-related stuff
I just met ladylisse and you didn't, so nyah.

And now, it's time for a bit of a rant.

The recent shipper nastiness is leaving a really bad taste in my mouth. I'm as happy as the next R/Hr fan that they are really together in canon, but I see absolutely no reason to be mean and nasty to anyone who ships H/Hr (many of whom I call friends), and it disgusts me that anyone else would be so petty. I think I missed where we were competing against one another. Call me Pollyanna, but why are people fighting, exactly? We're all in this fandom together, we all love the books - that should be the bottom line.

By the same token, anyone who is declaring that HBP should be re-written or is threatening to leave the fandom because their ship didn't happen/won't be happening - get over it. You're not the only one who's a bit disappointed in the canon pairings, but you know what? That is a minor part of the books. That should not be your focus, and if it is, I suggest you read some romance novels instead of the Harry Potter books. To paraphrase Ron, you really need to sort out your priorities. JKR gets to write the books any way she likes - she is the ONLY canon authority. And if you don't like what she's done, you know what you can do? You can write FANFICTION! Isn't that one of the reasons we read and write it? To continue that world, make changes as we see fit? Use that energy and drive in a positive manner, not a whiny one.

Is this really so hard?

I'm with you. I don't understand the gloating and the rubbing of noses in things etc. If I'm backing off from fandom etc. it's due to that sort of sore winner behaviour and negativity of "We know more than you did, nyah nyah" from many quarters (not necessarily R/Hr fans).

I have certain problems with the book which are more inherent of the way things were written/dealt with than the actual outcomes but then again, I'm a professional writer (of sorts) and I don't necessarily think some of her clever tricks worked. But that's just an opinion, it doesn't mean JKR needs to be hung, drawn and quartered etc. It's just my feeling -- it's her world though.

Thanks for reminding people that it's getting out of hand. (And you know it doesn't help when Emerson of Mugglenet calls H/Hr fans "delusional" in a public interview with JKR and people pat him on the back for it...there's no reason for that sort of vitriol.)

A friend of mine: "How can I still write H/Hr when I know she's interested in Ron?"
Me: "Aren't you the woman who also wrote Lily/Snape, set AFTER James and Lily were married?
Friend: [after long pause] That's different.
Me: *headdesks*

:)) Hope I didn't scare you too much.

I'm kinda stunned at all the shippy craziness -- especially since it was what, less than a hundred pages out of the whole book? O_o There's people out there who need a major, major grip. Stat.
