I give up.
A number of people I respect, care about and like a great deal find things like the hate thread and fandom wank amusing. I don't like such things at all. I've been trying to reconcile these two sides and find that I can't - to me, causing other people deliberate pain and then saying it's those people's fault if they're hurt because they're too fragile... I just can't agree with that. However, since I can't figure this out, I'm not going to try anymore. I don't need the headache any longer and I have too much of my own crap to worry about. Therefore, I guess this will have to be one of those things where we agree to disagree and go on with our sad little lives.

In other exciting news, I have spent the weekend playing the first Monkey Island, Syberia II and reading Tamora Pierce. This whole losing an hour thing has been kicking my arse around the apartment all day, so I think I'm going to collect my laundry and then read in bed until I pass out (which should be in about 10 minutes if that much).

Oh, have I mentioned that I joined the staff of The Witching Hour? Yeah, baby!

G'night, world.
I feel: sleepysleepy

Sorry, just returned to the land of the keys.

I think part of the attraction of the anonymous hate poll is just that, it's anonymous. I think that part of the problem with LJ is that we are so interconnected. Everyone knows everyone else's business and thinks that they need to comment on it.

Hypothetical situation. Say I dislike person A. I have a situation with them and decide to cease contact with them. I post a comment about the situation in my journal as does person A. Person B, who only knows part of the situation, decides that Person A is more important in the fandom than I am and decides that they need to be involved and therefore defriends me and causes a stink. It happens over and over again and it only leads to fractures in the fandom.

That's why I think that on some level the hate meme was amusing. It allowed people to say what was on their minds without fear of retribution. It's normal that we won't all get along. Because there is such a level of kindergarten behavior, sometimes we need to be able to vent our spleens. It is only when people don't understand that not everyone will like them that we have an issue. I agree with you that it went too far. But in a lot of cases, people got flamed as soon as they said anyone was disliked. Poeple immediately recruit their freinds to support them rather than just letting it go.

I just think everyone needs to lighten up a bit. Life's not so serious.

Do I make any sense?
